Energy efficiency certificates are aimed at companies or institutions planning to improve energy efficiency. They gain additional funds to implement such actions.
White Certificates are granted for initiatives aimed at improving energy efficiency
in accordance with art. 19.1 of the Energy Efficiency Act. These include:
Modernization or replacement of:
- lighting
- equipment and installations used in industrial energy, telecommunications, or IT processes
- local heating networks and local heat sources
Energy recovery, including recovery of energy in industrial processes
Insulation of industrial installations
Energy recovery, including recovery of energy in industrial processes
Reduction of losses related to energy consumption, transmission, or distribution:
- related to reactive energy consumption
- network losses related to transmission or distribution of electricity or natural gas
- transformation losses
- losses in heating networks
- related to power supply systems for telecommunications or IT devices
Reconstruction or renovation of a building along with technical installations and equipment
Use of energy generated from RES installations, or useful heat in high-efficiency cogeneration, for heating or cooling facilities
White Certificates as financial instruments
White Certificates can be traded on the Power Exchange, with their unit of value expressed in TOE (ton of oil equivalent: 1 toe = 41,868 GJ = 11.63 MWh). The legal basis for obtaining certificates is the Energy Efficiency Act of May 20, 2016. The minimum certificate value for a single action or a group of actions of the same type is 10 toe, corresponding to at least 116.3 MWh (418.68 GJ) of final energy savings.
The price per toe is not fixed and changes over time. It is worth monitoring the current market rate.
