European industry focuses on energy efficiency – DB Energy among the Leaders of Transformation – insights from ener.CON Europe 2020
At the ener.CON Europe 2020 conference in Berlin, we met with leaders of the energy transition from across Europe. The conclusions are clear: energy efficiency is becoming a strategic development direction for industry – both for economic and environmental reasons.
The event brought together representatives of the largest manufacturing companies, technology integrators, consultants, and experts responsible for plant energy. We discussed challenges and solutions that are already affecting the competitiveness of European industry.
What drives investment?
Conference participants clearly indicated that the main drivers of investments are:
- rising energy costs,
- the need to decarbonize production processes,
- regulatory changes (including Green Deal, ETS, CSRD),
- stakeholder expectations (customers, investors, employees),
- the development of technologies supporting energy and CO2 management.
What actions is the industry taking?
Manufacturing companies implement concrete solutions:
- installation modernizations and heat recovery,
- energy management systems (EMS),
- measurement and prediction of energy consumption,
- transition to low-emission energy sources (RES, cogeneration),
- contract models such as ESCO and EPC allowing investments to be financed from savings.
Our observations
As participants of the event and active partners in industrial transformation, we observe a growing interest in a data-driven approach in energy management. Key decisions are increasingly made based on measurement data, simulations, and predictive analyses.
We are pleased that our approach – combining audit, design, and implementation of investments with ongoing monitoring and efficiency management – meets these needs. Through cooperation with companies such as Willbee Energy and EFESO Consulting, we also carry out international projects based on the same quality and efficiency standards.
European industry is ready for change
Insights from ener.CON Europe are clear:
- energy efficiency has stopped being just a cost – it is a source of competitive advantage,
- companies expect partners with experience and implementation competencies,
- the energy transition is becoming a strategic project for entire industrial groups, not just technical departments.
