What is the Sustainable Economy Summit?
Sustainable Economy Summit is one of the key events in Poland dedicated to ESG, sustainable development, green energy, and modern management models. The event brings together leaders from Polish and international business, representatives from academia, administration, and experts in energy and climate transformation.
DB Energy, as a member of Executive Club, actively participates in shaping directions for a sustainable industrial economy and energy transformation.
ESG, technology and green economy – main topics of the conference
The conference included 6 discussion panels and 11 individual presentations. The debates covered topics such as:
- green building and decarbonization of the real estate sector,
- green digitization and process optimization in companies through technology,
- the future of renewable energy sources,
- responsible business and practical ESG strategy,
- circular economy as a model for the future.
The event featured speakers such as Eamon Gilmore, EU Special Representative for Human Rights, Peter McAteer, ESG expert, prof. Hans-Otto Pörtner from IPCC, Kamil Wyszkowski from UN Global Compact, and prof. Witold M. Orłowski, who opened the conference with a lecture on the role of ESG in the economy.
Green building – challenges and barriers
The first panel, moderated by Dr. Bartosz Zamara, addressed challenges in low-emission construction. Experts emphasized the need to consider the entire life cycle of buildings – from design, through material selection, to operation. Attention was drawn to the impact of the energy mix on the actual carbon footprint – even modern buildings in Poland, powered by high-emission energy, may lag behind Western standards.
Green digitization – efficiency, AI and cybersecurity
The "Green Digitization" panel, moderated by Dr. hab. Rafał Mrówka, focused on the role of technology in increasing resource and energy efficiency. Experts highlighted how digitization can support CO2 emission and waste reduction – including process optimization, data monitoring, and AI implementation. Vice President of the Management Board Anita Sowińska from the Ministry of Climate and Environment also spoke, pointing to the need to develop digital skills in industrial sectors.
Green energy and the mix of the future
In the discussion on green energy, led by Prof. dr. hab. inż. Waldemar Kamrat, the challenges and opportunities facing renewable energy sources, including offshore, and the role of nuclear energy in decarbonization strategy were discussed. Experts emphasized the need for synergy between renewable and conventional sources and the importance of flexibility and energy storage.
ESG and responsible business at the core of strategy
The second day of the conference focused on social and managerial aspects. In the panel on ESG in business, moderated by Ewa Mochocka, the integration of ESG goals with operational models, reporting challenges, and the role of transparency in building company value were discussed. Meanwhile, the discussion on shared value showed that social responsibility is no longer just an addition – it is becoming a pillar of competitive advantage.
Circular economy – profitability and scaling
The final panel, moderated by Prof. Krzysztof Pikoń, focused on circular business models – centered on recycling, reuse, and extending product life cycles. Experts analyzed regulatory aspects, costs, and the potential of the circular economy for industry, indicating that the profitability of circular solutions is increasing in the face of rising raw material and energy costs.
